Default Figuring out the fuel for this year

Well this 6.4 bites. I had 75 fill ups. I purchased 1134.858 gal. of fuel at a total cost of 4318.35 bucks avg mpg 12.793. I see some BIG changes to this truck this new year.

On a side note.

I tried a test and was stunned at what happened. I filled up at Hess 40 cetane at the pump and put a haft bottle of cetane from ford in the fuel instead of what they tell you. Well the truck ran 100% better the DPF clean mode was maybe 10 miles and the mileage jumped from 11.69 to 13.92 city driving in one tank run. This is all hand figured too. I think really good fuel is going to be key to these trucks getting almost good MPG.

I had to take a fast trip to Texas yesterday for the funeral of a very dear friend who died from Cancer.
The round trip was 398 miles and I kept it on 70+ and most of the time 75 and 78. I wanted to fuel
up last night when I got back at the same pump at a Wal-Mart near our home, but there was a Fuel
Tanker there, so I waited tell today and fueled up.
The Lie-Meter said I got 14.3 for the trip. Doing it by hand showed 14.6. I sure miss the 17 I got
when this truck was new. Merry Christmas to all.

It's not the truck, it's the sorry excuse for diesel fuel we are now getting at the pumps. When my truck was new, it was not uncommon to get 20+ mpg on highway driving. I'm lucky to break the 17 mpg mark now. Ditto on towing, I used to get 13 mpg towing my fiver, now it hovers around 9 to 10 mpg. I'm seriously considering getting the Ford cetane boost that the dealer service department tries to get me to buy every time I'm in there.

That may be some of it Ray, but the Reflash they
did to my truck didn't help my MPG's at all.
Doug, Merry Christmas to all.

It is WINTER Fuel. They re-formulate the fuel, for the colder climates in winter, and it doesn't get the same mileage as summer fuel.

Completely Stock.

I had a Detroit Diesel 8V92TA in a KW dump truck in 1980. That sucker would put out 425 hp but would never out pull a CAT.

I used to get a consistent 16mpg........on a long trip I might just squeeze out 17.

Now I never see 16...............

Is the Ford stuff better than the other brands? I currently have some diesel kleen, its in the grey or silver bottle. I think its mainly a fuel system cleaner. What cetane boost you guys recommend? I try to put in some supertech in every tank when I fuel up.

It would be interesting to know WHO makes the Ford stuff, for FOMOCO.

It might be marketed under another Brand Name, and probably..at a cheaper price ?
