Different springs and I think you get the 3:55 rear end. Same axles, brakes, and transmission. Nothing a set of air bags can't make up for.

If you are going to be pulling a large fifth-wheel I would get the 3.73 gears
and the 25 k hitch, that Ford puts in the trucks now. We have a few people on this forum, that know a lot about these trucks and fifth-wheel RV's.
I been pulling and camping with fifth-wheels for 30+ years now, we are not full timers yet but would like to be one day soon.

3.73 are not available. 3.55 is the new 3.73. There are plenty of guys towing with the 3.31 gearing with no issues. If you are going to be pulling the hills go with the 3.55.

I have the 3.55 and my truck will shift through 3rd when crossing an intersection from a stop. First gear is plenty low to get any load moving.

Alot cheaper to just install the air bags then get the package then.

If he is going to be towing a fifth wheel, I would hope that he would get a DRW and a 3.73 gear. 3.55's may be fine for a SRW, but a SRW is not fine for towing a big fifthwheel, and yes I know that some do it.

Wonder what the max a SRW would pull in a 5th wheel? Im in the market next yr for a toy hauler 5th wheel but most are triple axle and dont want to do that to my truck. Hard to find small toy hauler 5th wheels. Might have to settle for a bumper pull toy hauler with a equalizer hitch.

grin Love my 2011

I purchased a 2011 F350 SRW 2WD 6.7 L Diesel supercab with the integrated 5th wheel prep package including the 10000 lb upgrade. The advantage of the 10000 lb kit is slightly higher payload or hitch weight rate. For my trailer (16,000 fully loaded) and occasional towing that I do, the SRW tow rating is sufficient, I get the antisway software, and it fits in my garage.

Check out this link to the Ford website. It should answer all your questions in regard to towing capacities for all the different configurations. Hope this helps!
