Two things;
1) I doubt that it was ever a bad pump. Gear box yes.
The question should be: Why did the gear box fail?
Defect, Low on fluid, Loss of pressure............

2) The engine compartment should have been steamed cleaned after servicing.
I'm thinking you may have an exhaust gas leak. Possibly around the Turbo.

Who knows, this may have been caused by your previous service.

If possible, go to another service center to get a second opinion.

Update to the Power Steering - The problem with the smell never was related to the power steering but was simply a loos clamp at the exhaust filter which leaked when going thtough the cleaning process. The tech's didnt have a clue. The problem was diagnosed by a retired mechanic which i had the dealership pursue. Waste of time and parts on power steering simply because a "highly trained" tech wouldnt think further then how to replace a part.
