Default oil pan gasket...

ok guys... stupid question... havent gotten in to tearin this engine up much... but, on the oil pan gasket... is it a make ur own type of deal that i need to make a gasket w/ rtv or is there actually a gasket made for the 1st gen 7.3 psd?

No gasket, you make your own using TA-31 (the only stuff to use IMO) Here's the sealants to use on these engines:

Sealant (Wacker)
Intake Plenums: Motorcraft TA-30 (used to be Ford part F7AZ-19554-EA)
Everything else (oil pan, etc): Motorcraft TA-31 (used to be Ford part F5TZ-19G204-AB)

Will RTV work in place of the TA- 31 You suggest? I'm working on a budget, and have High temp RTV available...

Don't use anything but the Ford or Navistar supplied sealant. It's not worth doing it twice. RTV will leak.
