Default looking at buying some generic questions. . .parking?

I noticed the other day a 2005 harley davidson edition f250 that has the 5.9 12v cummins swap. Truck has 130k on the body and trans and it has a stock 1994 5.9L 12v cummins with 250k. I checked it out and everything looks good. The price seems reasonable. The problem is parking - the driveway is only 25 feet long and fits 2.5 cars wide. Im gonna be moving out of the house in a year when I graduate and Im kinda gonna need something to tow 2 boats, sandrail, four wheeler, ultralight, snowmobile, or my jet ski when i want to use them. I can park on the side street 2 doors down when its warm but ill have to plug it in in the winter and that is what is getting me. It gets to single digits or low teens usually for a couple months here during winter nights.

I just dont think Im gonna find a truck like this again when I need to. Im ridiculously picky about vehicles. I would only want a diesel truck and really only a cummins but their is no way I would by a dodge. The Harley is by far my pick for the cab. I may be able to get away with a half ton for now but I know I am going to want to be able to haul heavier loads in the future. I just hate passing this up!

The question here is not get a different truck but am i missing any type of way that would make this vehicle work for my situation? - Unfortunatley, if i move out now I dont think i would be able to afford this truck and pay for living expenses until I have a full time job.

Also what would you pay for this vehicle? The body and cab are very clean, no rust or any dings to speak of and the engine was installed using a kit from fordcummins.com

The truck is worth less than a stock truck of that year. Transplants are not worth the money on the used car/truck market; in spite of all of the time and money involved. If you really want the truck, take it for what it is and not a factory truck. Bid accordingly. Good Luck!

Completely Stock.

I had a Detroit Diesel 8V92TA in a KW dump truck in 1980. That sucker would put out 425 hp but would never out pull a CAT.

Move some of the other toys out via a garage sale and you'll generate cash and room at the same time. Wala problem solved..

That's a lot of miles on a 18 year old engine, what trans does it have in it?
Hope you can get it real cheap.

If its cheap enough and you checked it over good enough, I'd snag it. I thought they would've put a 24v in it or common rail.

The guy who put it in works on a farm and has a lot of experience with that engine as a result. I could definitely sere why he put it in. Of course it is the cheapest and easiest swap since it doesnt have the electrical.

The thing is about the engine is that from what everthing ive read and everyone i have talked to that has one i should easily be able to get 500k out of it and there are a lot of guys with well over that. Its mechanical which is awesome and injectors, the fi pump, and turbo are a fraction of the cost. I could get a long block for less than i could replace injectors for on the Powerstroke. It doesnt have the hp numbers the powerstroke does but with a little money and tweeking it very easily could (at the cost of miles of the for mentioned numbers obviously).

I cant remember what trans exactly but i believe it has the torqshift 5 speed auto. I didnt check numbers tho that is one of the things on my list to check.

Again Im still trying to figure out what to do about parking!

I know very little about PowerStrokes and even less about cummins.

Is there some reason that an ether injection kit would not get it to fire in the cold?

Ether injection into any diesel is a fire hazard if that motor has any type of glow plugs or Intake Heaters. Can cause an explosion. It will get the engine running if all the rest is good. Just be forewarned!

Good point Dave.

I would hope that someone that undertook an ether injection install would disable all intake/glow plug assistance beforehand. It is said that ones day can be ruined when you blow the intake off the engine.
