Default Used Oil Fuel Blending.

So I've recently talked to a friend who has customers who blend any type of used motor oil with their diesel fuel and he was saying they where doing it 50% used motor oil with 50% diesel fuel.

I'm curious to know if you can do such a thing with a completely stock SDD or if its even worth it.

Thoughts?

Travis

Yes you can. But a VERY BAD IDEA. Don't do it, it not worth the damage you'll end up with later. Old motor oil ends up with metal from the motor it was run in. Like steel, brass, and a hole mess of other thing in it and fuel filter don't get it all.
IF you want to blend something get 5 gal. of B99/100 Bio diesel and dump it on a almost full tank and see what you get. I ran strait B100 bio
in my 6.0 and it love it.

My 6.4 I cant do it.

I have been thinking about this. Used motor oil does indeed have microscopic impurities but how is that any different than the trash normally found in diesel fuel??? Ie - water, rust, algae, etc that the fuel filtration system deals with on a regular basis.

My .03 worth.

Impurities are One thing, but as lubricants break down, there are chemical changes that happen. Corrosives, and the like can form. Most oils are not ash-less, when burned (coking). On & On.

We could [Probably] do it. But [Probably} is just To Big'a Word for a 10+K motor... fer me.

'Sides, if it were the Thing To Do ? .. We'd all be already doing it ?

To many Maybe's.

hmmm
i did it with my 7.3
HOWEVER this is a biggie for me
the used oil was MINE from my engine, that been running through a bypass system (oil guard)

then the old oil was processed through one micron setup

followed by a week standing to settle and then re filtered again through a one micron stainless steel mesh filter, at the time i worked for a place that gave me great access to pricey filtration systems

so it worked out at 10k oil change i had that oil to process and burn.
no other was used...
then i did the same thing to peanut oil we used to fry birds.

when we switched over to a 6.0 .....i only did peanut oil in a b5-b10 mix

Many wise man that can't have told you to not to. They have good reason to do so.

However, I'm approaching eighteen thousand miles on just such a thing. Not a SD, but OBS 7.3.

Used oil. Blend with regular unleaded. Let sit three days plus. Drain sludge. Filter through a five filter rack. Fill. Drive. Repeat.

Motor oil. ATF. My current crop is waste hydraulic oil with eighteen percent gas added. I call it WHO82.

Fuel costs about $.67/gallon plus State fuel tax at 26.5 cents per gallon.

Those that say not to do it are also correct. When I first started, I learned to change my on board fuel filter in as little as four minutes and eighteen seconds. On the side of the road.

I got good at it because it was clogging in as little as one hundred miles. Repeatedly. I bought so many fuel filters from my local distributor that he gave me a very impressive fleet discount. I think he felt sorry for me. Now I change my fuel filter every other oil change.

YMMV.

Right on, I also would rebuild the injectors soaking in Kerosene, and they worked like new then. A long time ago but I think they Popped at 1350 PSI. The 6.0 pops at over 30,000. Is that right?
