The USAF was testing bio-jet fuel a while back. We had a thread about it
HERE.
They were using a B-52 as the ideal platform for the flight tests. The 8 engines are hung from 4 engine nacelles in pairs. Each engine nacelle is fed fuel from a main fuel tank. By filling one of the main tanks with the bio-jet fuel, they were able to evauluate how well the engines ran on the new fuel and still have plenty of engines left in case something went badly.
I would think that the testing data was shared with the airlines.
