Well Ford made the trimotor plane, mainly used for air mail and stuff. I know all vehicle manufacturers made some kind of military stuff like tanks, airplanes and guns during the war. Im talkin about civilian stuff.

Couldn't get the video to open and/or play. But yes, many of the plants made items totally different from their usual products. In fact, I think Ford was very instrumental in the final design for the Jeep, now known as the Jeep Wrangler, which has kept the original design (although highly modified) all these years.

Ford Motor Company played a patriotically vital role in WWII building a huge array of fighting equipment like the awesome B-24 seen in this vdieo clip. Most people don't realize FORD made probably as many "Jeeps" as Willys did. FORD Truly has had a "Better Idea" for years and has helped preserve OUR beloved Nation during time of War! Kudos to all those a FORD MOTOR COMPANY who proudly made this happen!

I just watched a cool episode of modern marvels on history channel. It was about George Washington Carver, the peanut pioneer in the late 1800's and early 1900's. Ford actually teamed up with him since he was working with soy bean "plastics" back in the early 40's. They showed a vid of one of Fords 1940 Fords with a plastic trunk lid that they were beating with a hammer and of course it didnt hurt it. Back then they both were looking into alternative fuels like bio diesel and other products like using soy beans as a rubber product. Back then Ford was using soy beans in their cars for the window cranks and shifter knobs! I had no idea they were using stuff like that back then.

Bakelite was popular from the 1900's to WWII and that was just about all of the plastic
we had. After WWII we developed many of the plastic we use today. Chemistry advanced a lot during the time after WWII. Dave

I would like to join you. I just don't get past Colorado in my eastward travels. Tell us what you see and learn.

I have seen most of this country, by air plane. I am retired and have no plans to venture across the country with gas approaching $5.00 per gallon.
