Hey Mark, That's exactly what a bad IPR will do. It gets hot and has to cool before it will work again. My original bad IPR would work perfectly, but while driving down the highway it would just "switch off" and die. Then after it sat on the side of the road and cooled a bit, she'd fire right up...
Well, I should have known. I found IPR valves anywhere between $40 and $200 on Amazon. The one I bought cost $70. It's another one of those things with these trucks to where you should always buy a Motorcraft part. We pulled the $70 part and replaced it with the $200 Motorcraft part and viola...
Had to swap out the IPR valve last week. My truck would die at highway speeds and then start only when the valve would cool off. I had my mechanic change it out. He told me that it would probably have air in the system now and would take about 50 miles to work it out. Well, it's been around 150...
Here's the deal, I have Bilstein shocks on my F250. But,any shocks you put on a 3/4 or 1 ton truck won't make a noticeable difference because the spring rate is so stiff.
Do you have around a 1/4 tank of fuel? Could be your "shower head" has fallen off of your fuel pump pick up. I'm in the process of that right now, can't let it get below 1/4 tank or she'll start sucking air.
In a diesel it's VERY important to run exactly the kind of anti-freeze the factory tells you to. Yes, it costs more but bad things could happen if you don't.
I have an '06 6.0 and twice now it is running out of fuel at or slightly less that an 1/8th of a tank. All I could find was info on a 7.3 doing that and something about a "duckbill" mod or repair in the tank. What is that and could it be the same thing with my truck?
