Be careful out there---had a chip put in my 99 F350 7.3 diesel---was having issues such as chugging when i let off the accelerator, acted like a rev limiter at 2K rpm and not shifting properly. Finally took it back in to the shop---come to find out they sent the wrong chip. They sent us the late 99-03 chip instead of the early 99 chip. New chip in the mail will update once it is installed.

Ive had one for over a year now.The mileage running empty on 75 hp setting gives me 19mpg at 70 mph.Never saw over 16 before and Ive had the truck since new.I use the 100 hp position pulling the trailer. My old stock transmission didnt like it though!Mileage sucks about the same as it was,but I hardly ever drop out of OD.It will be interesting to seewhat effect the wheel and the manifolds make when towing.Next friday we are headed out to Goshen In.

I have a love/hate relationship with mine. Economy is great, power is phenomenal. Can chirp 35" mud tires from 1st to 2nd on 140. BUT... there's something going on where it connects to the PCM. I have to flip my key back and forth until the WTS light stays on, then I can crank and start it. Without doing that, it will crank but not fire. Also, when I change the tune, on occasion it will kill the motor. New PCM is $500, so I've decided to deal with it for now. With the tuner unplugged, there's absolutely no issues with the truck and starting it. I actually just installed battery shutoff switches in case I have to remove the chip in an emergency.

This is a issue with the chip. I would most certainly figure it out before if fries your pcm.
I would guess it's the connection at the pcm. When they have issues, it's exactly as you describe. No WTS light, check engine light on, etc.

The idiot that installed the chip before I got the truck did several things incorrectly. In the installation instructions, it says to wipe off the silicone protective layer on the connection at the PCM. I was betting that the person who did it filed it too low and now the only way to fix that is to change the PCM. Is it more likely that changing the chip would fix it?

Anything is possible.
But you don't need a new pcm, you just need yours retinned. (Basically building up the solder on the pins)
Most of the tuner companies will do this.
Php did mine for $75 or something. I know it wasn't a whole lot.
