Ok Ok I know that this is a question that gets brought up alot. :sorry I am getting ready to order a programmer as soon as next week. I have been looking at every different type under the sun. Is anyone running the SCT programmer on a 7.3L? I have looked at all the other programmers and none of them are saying anything about the transmission. I think SCT says alittle something about the subject but that is all. Just your thoughts. I have even been thinking about running a 6 position chip from TS performance. Want what is best. Plan on building a big HP truck :sweet :sweet but what to start with what is best for now and work my way up. Thanks :thanks :thanks

Get a chip! For big power you'll need custom programming and that's easiest on a chip. The SCT can be had with a couple of custom tuners programs but switch on the fly is a BIG + with big HP.

As for who's tunes...pick your pony and ride it. Dennis at TS doesn't do custom 7.3 tunes anymore I believe. You can get Wildman and Tipton tunes from Bean's.:sweet So far I've run TS, DI, and DP tunes. Soon to be running Wildman.:sly It's alot easier for me to get live tuning from Tony than Jody and live tuning is the only way to go!

Do you have any links for them? What to check it all out. One other question, I don't have alot of stuff on the motor yet. Is that going to hurt me running a chip or tuner with big HP? I know that I can switch it and keep it on safe setting. Just wondering.

You should be fine with any chip or tuner, just keep an eye on the temps.

Keep in mind, with your "big power" that you have PMR rods and 400-430 is about the limit before needing a bottom end. You will be no where near that with a chip intake and exhaust but just a FYI

Thanks Joe,
That is the biggest thing that I am watching. I know that I can only get to 400hp before the PMR rods go south. I want to start experimenting and keep working to get pass 400hp.

Good tunes (live, with CP testing equitment) is the key. Big oil, true 530's and a Gt-42 would be a safe set-up

Tony Wildman is the man to see for a chip. www.totaldieselperformance.com

A set of hybrids, late model hpop and a hypermax h2e would be more than enough to push those PMR rods into destruction. Dunno why everyone recommends big oil and b codes for everything....

My pedartor Diablosport made good #'s, but the biggest downfall is that you can't switch it on the fly. I haven't seen real #'s from a programer that are any better w/o injectors, water/meth, propane etc. Believe me when I say that I have looked. As far as chip's go I'm not sure what does well. I have heard alot of good tings about Tony Wildman, but have seen any #'s yet.
