Ok, so I am almost at my wits end with this oil seepage at the IC and charge pipes.

So I am reading the CCV mod wiki, and it occurs to me that what we are creating is a draft tube from the PCV to the open air.

Legalities aside, what keeps dirt and debris from working its way back UP the pipe? Or what prevents a vacuum from forming between the valve cover and the exhaust sucking soot laden exhaust back into the engine, making your oil dirtier and potentially abrasive.

anyone?

If you are refering to routing it through the exhaust pipe..........pressure from the crank case and vortex/vacuum at the exhaust keep the gases moving in one direction.

this is a modification for these trucks, however almost all medium/heavy duty applications both on and off highway use an open crank case breather design, with no more than "steel wool" for filtration between the crankcase and atmosphere.

if you were to hook up the breather to the exhaust, you definatly dont have to worry about a vac. pulling exhaust up. the crank case pushes a significant amount of "air". enough so that on gas engines with mass air flow calculations it needs to be compensated for in the fuel mapping equation.

watch videos of pulling trucks and look underneath...you will see how much blowby an engine actually has. dirt would be very hard pressed to travel that far going against the current to reach the engine. even if it did, it would probably just stick to the sides of the oily pipe and ooze back out.

as for the legal end of things, it depends on your state. and even so, i dont think you will ever be pinched for this mod.

definatly NOT true for CT :cussing: but even still they wouldnt notice a crank case breather pipe. if its obd2 they plug in, pre obd2 gets the sniffer and fuel cap test.

I'll ad my 2cents worth. I have ran my vent into the exhaust from early on. At one point i started having a weird issue, When the truck sat ideling at a store while i ran in it would smoke horribly when you got in and pulled away. This happened when i was running a GT38R. I thought it was an issue with the valve seals. When i changed over to the H2e it stopped. I talked to the guy i sold it to and he said he did not have any problems like this but he just ran his to an open dump.

With the amount of blowby these engines have, no dirt is going back in...and the vacuum is a negative...no worries.

I have a question about this mod. The CCV is on the drivers side and the exhaust is on the passenger side so, at what point under the truck do you route the hose to tap into the exhaust? I would think you would always want the hose to be 'falling' so that any oil that comes out of suspension will flow down hill and out and not pool in the tube. Also, the exhaust is rather HOT after exiting the turbo and PVC tubing melts easily so I would think that the junction should be in the tail pipe, after the muffler. Well, how do you clear the driveshaft without routing the tube over the driveshaft?
