I'd like to purchase the AFE Stage II intake kit this week and was curious to if any gains would be acquired over the Donaldson style conical filter which I'm currently using.

I know the AFE will draw the fresh air from the grill and not the hot engine area but is there much more to it than just that?

Bill, I have considered this myself. The AFE will lower your egt's and I believe that the AFE filter out-flow the Donaldson CFM wise. The one drawback would be volume of dirt that the AFE can hold vs. the huge Donaldson.

I'm thinking the filter element that comes with the kit and the pre filter sock oughta do it since it's not all that dusty here in Dallas.

Get the ProGuard 7 add an 8th layer(prefilter) and you should be good to go. IMO the standard media passes too much. I still don't like running cotton gauze up here but Peter made me a deal I couldn't refuse on my Volant.

Would all those layers still move more cfm than a Donaldson style setup?

Yes they will. But I have been running the non proguard for over 100k and the intake tube is clean as a babys butt...

From what I've seen the AFE II comes in 3 varieties: Standard, PG7 and Dry S. Which one would be the best for the DFW area?
