    oil exchanger issue

Might be a bad heater core.

    Surging ? Help!

If it revved up and maintained the higher RPM then it's normal. Next time it does it, get in and tap the brake pedal. If the RPM drops down it's the ECM.

    30K miles update

Your just about to catch me, except it took me 3 yrs to break 30k LOL. I agree with the break-in. Mine feels like it's finally settled in also. Wear metals on my UOAs are just starting to level off, too.

    Oil filters revisited

Don't write off all Purolators. Many, but not all, of the "PremiumPlus" filters (L45515) are actually the Racor filters boxed in Purolator boxes. I bought four of these recently when PepBoys ran a two for $5 sale.

I was watchin Close Encounters of the Third Kind the other night and as these lights went by in the sky the cars would do this. OK, never mind.:Lala ;)

Need help with B&W hitch install!

Well, it took me a solid 5 hrs after subtracting dinner and watching some of Close Encounters. LOL. The tightness of the angle iron cross bars put up a good fight, but I finally won. Gonna have to put some chassis paint down there, though. Scratched the hades out of the bed bottom. Thanks...

Need help with B&W hitch install!

OK, I drove them into position with an 8 lb sledge. Haven't tried turning them yet but I think I can do that with a big crescent slipped over the legs. I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks again Roy.

Need help with B&W hitch install!

Thanks Roy. It's very tight. So tight they wont even slide into position when angled like in your suggestion (the /\ position). I don't think my bed's pushed down, but there is only about 1-1/8 inch of clearance between the bed and the frame. The angle is 1-3/4 inches in the /\ position, and the...

Need help with B&W hitch install!

I know this should go in towing section, but I'm stuck in the middle of the install, so I put it here so it would be seen quicker. (have mercy on me mods.) Decided to put my B&W turnover hitch on tonight on my '04 Lariat CC short bed with FX4 package. Drilled the hole (measured carefully)...

    CHEAP FUEL FILTERS FOR 6.0??

I get mine at International, part #1847170C93. On sale they're about $28 a set, normally about $40. They're Racor and identical to Ford filters.

    Block heater questions

Yes it's normal, to a point. Obviously if it's really warm the extension may be too thin or too long. You can tell if it's working because your truck will start easier. :) If you want a more empirical proof you can test it with an ammeter, ohmmeter, etc. (see above posts).

    oil cooler bypass??

I don't think you can do away with the stock oil cooler since it integrates with the filter base and front cover. You should still be able to run an auxillary cooler, though. Not sure what the best way to do this would be, but maybe you could plumb it like a bypass filter from the filter cap and...

    smoke when started

Low quality fuel can increase smoking at startup. Try a cetane booster like Stanadyne Performance or Motorcraft Cetane Booster.

HP Difference with 40 VS 50 Cetane

I have seen references to tests that measure cetane effects on power but never actually read any. Most of the additive makers claim more horsepower, of course. You're probably right about it being negligible, though.

HP Difference with 40 VS 50 Cetane

As I understand it, if all other conditions are equal, a higher cetane index for a given fuel type will translate into slightly more power because it lets the fuel ignite and burn more efficiently. It is true that biodiesel has less BTUs per volume unit than petroleum diesel and therefore...
