I also recommend that if it does not pass in a few hours, go to the hospital. When you are in severe pain, the urethra constricts, and makes it even more difficult to pass the stone. When in the hospital and given pain medicine (morphine), the urethra relaxes, and passes the stone. If left alone, the kidney can burst if the blockage is not released. I had one xray that had fluid spurting from my right kidney. Don't mess around, get relief.
BTW.... kidney stones are not smooth round objects. Most have sharp protrusions that cut as they move... Hence the blood in the urine.

First off, it is more painful than child birth per the medical journals.

P.S. to keep from getting them in the future, drink more water.
Avoid chocolate, peanuts, coke...
Of course all the things I like.

Not sure about the pain and child birth. My wife had had quite a few before my son was born so I thought she would sail right through it. NOT!! She was much more "uncomfortable" during birth than I have seen her with a stone and she had a spinal. That is not to say it was the same kind of discomfort though probably hard to really compare.

Chocolate, peanuts and Coke only help if it is Calcium Oxalate, there are a couple of other types of stones that are not caused by that. If it is Calcium Oxalate the list is much longer.

It is more painful for men, because women do not have testicles. It is also very painful for women, but if you ever had been kicked in the groin, that pain is added to the kidney pain for men. That pain is continuous until the stone is passed.
About 80% of all kidney stones are composed of calcium and other minerals.

Get thee to a hospital, have them run an IV drip of Demerol. In twenty minutes, you will not feel pain, and the doctor could take a sledgehammer to the family jewels and you would not feel a thing. The doc will also put you on fluids to make your kidneys flush out the stone.

Been there three times, done that, got the t-shirt.

Hey Richard
Did you get rid of the stone yet? I know the situation isn't funny but the part about the veggie filter sure struck me as funny. Sorry to interupt your movie yesterday, but I wish you hadn'yt told me what you were watching. After I got back from my "walk" I went in and watched the last 2 hrs. of Dances and them 3 hrs. of Jeriamiah. Needless to say I didnt get miuch done on the truck yesterday. This morning I finished the driveline, fixed the exhaust leak and even got AutoEnginuity 5.1 up and running. Next time I'll scan your truck after I collect the cheeseburger you still owe me.
