Thanks for all the replies! So alot say yes an some say no. What i have got out of it is get gauges, and if it keeps goin in an out of OD then turn it off. Simple enough. My main concern is with my previous vehicle(99 chevy suburban) I toasted the tranny twice in it. I know that tranny was way overworked. Ive just had my tits in a ringer once with the OD stuff and i just want to make sure this time i know what i can and cant do! Thanks again!!

Tow in OD as long as the trans is NOT hunting between OD and 3rd or unless the engine is lugging on a hill. Otherwise you should be fine. But you do need to monitor your trans. temp while towing. So, Gauges are a good idea.

Welcome and happy towing.

I used to tow in OD with my 5000# boat until I went to Norris lake a few years ago. My trans temp gauge was running right in the middle until I stopped at the first traffic light after getting off the highway and it went pegged on hot and the transmission started pucking fluid out the front. burned up the front seal and torque convertor. then last year went to Scheid show and burned up another torque convertor and cluthes. I will now have upgraded to Bd torque convertor and Acc. Body with No problems when towing in OD. This is what I went throught with stock parts. I know some people have gotten a lot of life towing in OD and some who ended up like me 300 miles from home with trans promblems.

I've ALWAYS used overdrive while towing unless I end up with excessive downshifting on grades, and that has only happened once, it was about 5 jeeps worth too! Welcome to the site.
