Fuel pump -OR- clogged tank pickup?

Certainly that banjo bolt didnt strip when he was removing it, he musta crossthreaded it when he put it in the last time. Have him run the banjo in and out of the new pump a few times before he puts the pump in(if its not to late) that will clean up the threads and make it easier to reinstall when trying to get it started under the pedestal.

I agree. That's the plan. The banjo bolt arrived late yesterday and he called late last night saying that he'd be here first thing in the morning.

A little of both.

After he installed the Ford fuel pump it started right up. Then I told him to attach his fuel pressure gauge to verify 40-46 psi but only saw 20 psi. It dropped to 12 psi as I was giving it fuel (in park) but dropped to 8 then the truck shook and died. Is there an echo in the room? Deja vu all over again. Then he removed the fuel bowl again and removed the FPR and disassembled it. I was already charged for an FPR cleaning but obviously it had never been done. There was crud ( a cotton tip from a Q-Tip) blocking 60% of the screen and gummed veggie oil on all the inside parts (in the spool and in the cavity under the snap ring) and one of the return passages was clogged so he emptied two cans of brake cleaner in an old stainless steel pot for them to soak overnight. The little of both is me using an old toothbrush to finish cleaning off the soaking parts. Don't worry no rubber was soaking.


So tomorrow enters my 27th day of it being down. I should write a book.

Here's Sam's FPR picture that shows the shows the spool valve, shim, cap and spring in the correct order. See the 90's on the regulator, they're far more restrictive than the 45's on the head. Dont worry about it you will be good.

He never showed up. He got stuck fixing a big rig trailer all day and had to be home for dinner with the in-laws. :tongue2 I'd put it back together myself but I need his snap ring tool for the snap ring on the bottom of the FPR as well as a long extension for the fuel bowl bolts. Now that I'm so familiar with this fuel pump job I swear I'm doing the next one myself. Just gotta get certain tools. :sly

Rest assured...as soon as she's purrrrrrring again I'll edit my sig and sign off on this NEVER ENDING :rant THREAD.

What I really need for next time are these tools.

3/8" X 12+" extension
telescoping magnet
1 1/2" jumbo crescent wrench
glycerin filled fuel pressure gauge

I'm already looking into a 100 psi gauge to replace the schrader valve like Sam Miller has on his webshots. His is permanently attached. I may install a tee and have the schrader AND the gauge BUT in a center back mount. This will be my 8th add-on gauge. :thumbs
