My up pipe donuts are leaking badly. Do I remove the turbo, and work my way down, or do I remove the exh manufold, and work my way up?
Also do I need new up pipes, or should the old be reusable?

pop the turbo off.leave the pipes bolted to the manifolds.gut the exhaust back pressure valve(ebpv)while the turbo is off.you can also gut the ebpv actuator and plug the hole where the rod comes out of the pedistal.or buy a modded pedistal or get the international pedistal.use donuts for a chevy.i dont have the part# for them but somebody that does will be along shortly.only reason to replace the uppipes is if there is a huge groove worn into them by the donuts.but i think the chevy donuts take care of that.

I have heard that one should also shave a bit (like .005") off the donut "retainer" faces to get a bit more "squish". Part numbers:

Turbo Exhaust Collector Donut (at top of each manifold-to-turbo up-pipe)
(Ford) F4TZ-6K854-C
(NAPA) f17250 (Chevrolet application, but supposedly works for PSD)

Cheers!

so? I remove the turbo, and then remove the up pipes, replace the donuts, and reassemble, correct?

you can leave the pipes right in the truck.just pull the old donuts off them and slip the new ones on then reassemble everything

If you use the OEM gaskets you might want to do like Patrick suggested and take some material of the face of the clamp sections. If you ues the SB Chevy donuts they are a bit thicker and it won't be necessary. Also if you have a tailpipe expander tool it will help the gaskets seal if you expand the top of the uppipes so they are a tight fit in the ID of the donuts.

I don't have an expander. Any other way? I really don't want to do this again, and I don't want to spend any more $ than necessary. I hope to be buying a new to me SD in the next few months, then I hope to sell this one.
Thanks again.
