This may be a stupid question, but the green eye in my drivers side battery is now black. The passenger side shows green and my truck still starts easily. The batteries are the originals so 5 years old. I'd really prefer not to have to shell out the cash for new batteries right now so do you guys think they'll last through winter or would I just be asking to get stranded somewhere?

The red tops are regular starting batteries and the yellow tops are deep cycle. I think you can get the red tops for around 125.00, not sure about the yellow tops.

Are there any reasons to not go deep cycle batteries? What's the up or down side here.

What's the life span on the more pricey Optimas?

Not steal'n the thread here but: You can get by with Red tops if all you do is start yer truck with'm. I allways go with Deep Cycle cuz I have stuff like, On-board Air, a 12v cooler, a portable battery Booster, Bed lights and so on.

For the extra 20/30 bucks, for me.... it's worth it. Prolly just a Testosterone (sic?) thing ;) :D. (Wife gets REAL snipy 'bout that)

The life span is'nt much different, I don't think. :dunno
