b5 is a bunch of bs. any diesel will run with 5% horse piss in the fuel. and any diesel will run fine on pure b100.
the problem with higher levels of bio fuel is directly related to the DPF. it's the manufacturers bandaid way around the new emissions standards.
the DPF collects the soot from dino diesel until the backpressure builds up too high (filter gets clogged) then, they dump raw fuel down the pipe and burn-blow all the junk the filter collected out the end anyway. so istead of letting the "bad" stuff out a little at a time as the truck runs, they just puke it all up at one time.
the problem with higher levels of bio fuel is that the flashpoint is higher. the truck will go into regen (puke) mode, but won't ignite the clogged bandaid (dpf). some of the fuel eventually makes its way down the cylinder walls and mixes with the engine oil. too much of this and the oil gets polymerized (turns into pudding). you lose your oil pressure and the engine siezes.
kind of a catch 22 situation. the government wants to reduce our dependance on oil and the auto manufacturers are making impossible to do so.
just remember, the diesel engine was invented to run on peanut oil. some oil company processed crude oil to "simulate" the properties of peanut oil and called it "diesel fuel"
