Has anyone had to change the oil pump in the 7.3 idi while the engine is still in the truck? I have a 4x4 F 350 with a C-6 trans. I want to install a new oil pump before I install the new Banks sidewinder kit.

Thanks:confused:

Unless you're really patient, this isn't a job for a weekend. For starters, the motor/trans and frame is a really tight fit. the motor will have to be raised and blocked, and then you can get your hand into the pan to undo the hardware hold on the pickup tube and the pump. that stuff will have to come out with the pan. It's going to take a fair amount of wiggling to clear the ring gear on the flywheel. Putting it back in is going to be really entertaining. The gasket material for the pan is RTV gray. you're going to have to figure out how to get everything in without mucking up the silicone material.
My question is.......why are you going through all this grief? Are you getting abnormally low pressure readings with using a mechanical gauge? Our motors don't need pressure as they need volume.
