I know NOTHING about these. I need some guidance in selecting an all inclusive kit. Below is a list of things I would like it to do. Please let me know if they can do it and where to get one. I will have to order it because the PX over is not electronic friendly.

A display that will allow me to sort though music folders and select specific music and not just let it shuffle on its own.

Something that will allow me to download pre-assembled play lists and edit them.

Some kind of kit that plugs into my power source in my truck WITHOUT any wires hanging.

I would like the FM transmitter to be easily removed from the MP3 player so I can leave the transmitter in my truck.

An MP3 player that will accept the music I download regardless of the program I use.

Rechargeable with the option of using regular batteries if need be.

Something fairly new to the market so it is not obsolete a week after I get it.

Well, is all this realistic? I also want to know what other features you all suggest. I have never owned any type of MP3 player before. So any advice is welcome.

My Kenwood flat screen unit in my truck comes with a plug for a iPod which is the easiest way to get the music in the truck. I also have a Sony 10 disc CDROM changer under the rear seat that loads MP3 CD-ROMs with about 80 to 90 songs on each one for long trips. There are a couple of picts in my picture library.

I like that idea, but I want something that will work in any truck I jump into. Right now I am in Iraq and the radio stations suck. But I also want it to work in my dually back home with out having to install any new equipment.

Well if you have more than one truck to run this in, that can be a problem. You could conceivibly pull the unit and move it from truck to truck? Also I think there are those FM adapters that tap onto the antenna wire and allow plug in devices as my CD changer works like that. Since the truck is a tad noisy I was not to worried about signal loss but the newest ones from Sony work really well. I just did a Google search for "fm modulated ipod adapter" and there are dozens available fairly cheap so you could put one on each truck. Good luck and stay safe.

i have one of these and like it.

Newegg.com - mach speed Car Tunes Deluxe Wireless FM Modulator

i use it with an old school mp3 player and the built in 12V/ fm transiver/usb:memory stick player. it all comes down to how well you have organized your music.

and any FM transiever is going to have static.

you may have to give on 'no wires' a little bit. i have a hardwired transeiver that worked well, either PIE or similar. 1 wire hanging that was the 1/8" mini adapter. i pulled it from the old truck and never installed it in the new truck because the $20 adapter works good enough for me.

i think by the lack of "traffic" in this post is a tell-tale sign that
FM MODULATORS SUCK and most of us stay away from them.

headphone jack "feeds" arent any better really.

if you want to control your mp3 device w/ the head unit (ipod or other)
you really are gonna want to go to a REAL digital interface, youll benefit
from greatly improved sound, but it also means your probably gonna
give up the factory head unit...for, imo, a better head unit anyway

many after market head units now allow for USB memory stick insertion
right from the front of the radio or via a small cable (that you can hide
in the center console or arm rest)

some head units allow for micro sd card insertion too....i have an 8GB
micro SD card in my blackberry (i put music, photos & data files on it)
and the card only cost me 29 bucks !

everyone 'round here knows im a fan of pioneer...mostly because of their
add-on modules (mp3, bluetooth, cd players, hd radio tuners, sat. radio tuners etc)

i suggest you look at pioneer electronics car audio review their accessory units that can be
added to any of their radios (none of 'em require more than 3 connections...
data cable, power & ground)

also look at crutchfield.com plug in your desired criteria and review the
choices.

I will check Crutchfield, I have heard a little bit about them. When I get home I would love to have something like that in my dually. But over here, I need something that will work in these trucks. There is no place to plug anthing in on the head units in these Chevys.
