Deep Cycle Batteries

Interstate eh?

The Interstate rep I talked to talked me into Optima Yellow Tops because of their deep cycle characteristics.

Those who reccommended Interstate, what model No.? and are you running accessories like and inverter?

I have Mega-Trons on my truck and run stereo from time to time W/O truck on, and a snowplow in the winter. No problems. I'd put another set in it.

Most if not all RVs have 2sets of batteries. A chassis battery to start the engine, and a set of coach batteries to power the invertor,and the 12 volt stuff. Keith

2 960cca AGMs (Sears) in the truck, 2 Exide CG110 6v's in the 5r.. No Worries, so far :dunno

Had 2 Optima Yellow Tops in the truck, 2 Blue Tops in the 5r.. wasn't at all happy with the service life.

interstate is the way to go. ive been selling them for 18 years in my shop and the only returns i get are from the antique car guys who leave them in over the winter. if you never charge them they die. i had one guy who brought me a 42 month interstate battery and said he wanted a new one even though it was still good. i said why? its 11 years old he said and im nervous it wont last. ha ha. i sold him anouther interstate. true story by the way

I'll throw a vote to Interstate as well, that's all I run after the factory one goes paws up.

Deep cycle batteries do not have the surface area for qquick high current draw, what they do have is heavier plates designed to take medium loads over a long period without excessive heating.

As far as your inverter and laptop killing your batteries and alternator, I don't know. Lead acid batteries are best suited for abusive loads, motors, starters etc... light loads, like memory for keep alive stuff and little things LEDs and such are actually harder for this kind of battery to handle. Deep cycle vs regular, neither one will do well for light loads. you may wish to consider an auxiliary battery with an isolator. Having said that though, I do find it hard to believe that a laptop took out 2 batteries and the alternator.
