Results of the Spartant DFP tuner and delete kit.....

CNG on my 6.4

I am ordering a CNG kit for my 6.4 and have heard that it will double my MPG but we will see.

the problem is not so much the exhaust and intake, as much as it is the dpf. THE DPF IS THE MAJOR CAUSE OF LOW MILEAGE! The computer is to blame because it controls the DPF. The only way to get the mileage of the 7.3s and 6.0s is to hack the dpf and reprogram the ecm to cope without it. THAT IS WHERE THE MILEAGE GAINS ARE. Hopefully that helps clear it up.;tu

fuel economy no good

I thought I was reprogramming the ecm with the tuners that I was putting on that is why I tried so many different ones 4 to be exact SCT with DPF delete, then I stacked it with a edge juice but that didn't seem to help with the economy but tons of power then I went to a black box under the dash that resets the regen every time you start the truck with a Bully Dog Tuner and a cold air AFE intake still no or little gain. After doing all this I was pulling a large hill with camp trailer and 4 wheeler behind, blew a turbo boot and fried my Turbo's not a good week for me. (Warranty? I don't think so all because I am trying to get better fuel mileage.) I would have been better off to leave it stock and put the money into fuel to late now, does enyone have any suggestions?

Fishbob, slow down. I know you are trying everything but it gets so costly. I agree with dieselmacc99. Its your dpf unit on your truck that is giving you poor mileage. You can install a delete pipe but this brings other issues such as the need for a programmer, tunes, and warranty issues. The question is which one do you buy? Read the previous posts and you will find that Spartan makes a good product and it cannot be detected by your dealer once removed. (Was told by Spartan themselves). There are some crazy and innovative ideas that are not helping when making a decision. I am waiting to read more results from those people who have purchased these new products. The results must be supported by actuals not here say.

Fishbob, best of luck on the CNG. Post your results if you do it. I hope I didnt offend you. It was not my intent. Is CNG hard to get where you are?

Ok so far.....

I ran the truck with the stock settings with regen delete- got about another 38 to 45 miles. 450 to about 490

Then ran the truck on the 150hp setting with regen delete- AND DAMN NEAR DOUBLED THE MILES Got right about 800 miles, would have gotten more but i had to stop several times due to work stuff. 450 to 803

Next trip is to Louisana which is 1600 mile round trip. Im going to run the 210 hp setting and see what it does over there. Then run the 250 (race tune) see what it does.

I talked to Matt more about the tunes, from what i gathered the high the setting the better the truck likes it!!

All this testing is done on highway driving, NOT in town driving!


PS.... To be honest i thought the claims were all BS and ill be one of the first to call it, but i was DEAD WRONG!! This actually works!!! And just for the recorded, NO, Matt or Spartant Diesel has nothing to do with my finding or anything else. Theses are all done on my own.

Sorry if this question seems dumb, I am new to the diesel community and programmers...during this trip, was the DPF delete installed?

Makes me feel better that my good ole 7.3 is gettin better mileage than the newer trucks hehe.

Hello all,

I've got an '08 F350 SRW Crew cab SB that got about 15 mpg when new and totally stock. Put a leveling kit and 35's on it and mileage dropped to 13. I made the call to Spartan to see what all the hoopla was about. They were very friendly and helpful, so I decided to order right then and there. Got the tuner with pre-loaded tunes (including the nutty prof.), the intake, and exhaust with dpf delete for $2000. Took me one day to install all the parts in my driveway, with the tuner being the easiest of the three. The results? Unbelievable! My mileage went up to 20 highway and 18 city. What about power? More than I could have hoped for. Truck makes well over 500 hp at the wheels (650 at the crank) and more than 1100 torque. If black smoke is your thing, just turn the tuner to the highest setting and it will bellow out ungodly amounts at WOT. If not, then just keep a more conservative 210 hp setting and it drives just like stock until you mash the gas. The truck will spin 35 inch tires in four wheel drive. It's got that much power to spare. Keep in mind that my truck is heavier than when I bought it new. I've added front and rear Fab Fours bumpers, a Warn 16.5 winch, and a solid Diamondback HD tonneau cover. Plus the larger tires. All that extra weight means worse fuel economy, but with the Spartan kit, I'm still getting around 20. That leads me to believe a standard or extended cab short bed with stock tires might get 25 mpg's with the Spartan tuner. Can you imagine?

Now what about issues? Ok. Will the tuner negate my factory warranty? Well, yes and no. If you have to take the truck in for service, you will need to return everything back to stock and re-install the factory DPF. How about breakage or other problems. I've had no breakages so far, and I do not baby my truck. So hard not to stomp on the fast pedal all the time. It's too much fun. I will say that on my truck, it is necessary to power break the transmission before a launch to lock up the TC. If I don't do that, it will sometimes be very jerky in the power delivery. Once it did come up with an error code that basically said the transmission was not shifting properly. No harm, no foul on the vehicle. It was my fault really. It just went into limp mode, so I pulled over and used the tuner to reset the trouble code right then and there. Took all of about 30 seconds. Problem solved and it hasn't done it since. That is the price you must be willing to pay for big power. Are you?
