Have a 2000 F250 diesel crew cab 138k mi. It is a 2wd and does not have the tow package on it. We tow a 6000 lb tt (should be a cake walk for this truck). Issue is when driving the front end wants to wander (feels loose). It is more pronounced when we tow. Have had front end fully checked and trailer set up checked. All checks good but, the front end definitely has an issue, any suggestions. Have taken to ford dealer 3 times and one local mechanic in past two months, no problems found.

I would get the truck and trailer weighed as follows: Front and rear axle w/o trailer, front and rear axle with trailer, trailer axle and tongue weights without connection to the truck. Sounds like to much weight is on the rear making the front of the truck too light and it wants to wander. It could also be too much weight at the rear of the trailer trying to lift the rear of the truck and the trailer is trying to steer the truck. My old F150 needed a buch of tools and racing stuff in the bed under the cover as the trailer was loaded a bit heavy to the rear side of it.

Your rear tires should have 80psi and the fronts 55 psi. If they are E or F range tires

Have had trailer and truck weight set up checked at local tt service center. All is set right. Was told at last tire rotation that ball joints need replaced but they were only changed 2yrs ago and 26k miles.
