I just got back home from getting my oil changed and looked at the receipt and noticed that they put regular penzoil 15w-40 in my truck. How bad is that for my engine and should I go get them to change it or wait until my engine blows up and make them buy me new one. :innocent Just kidding, but just wondering what the consequences are. Thanks!!

You will be fine, just don't do anything heavy, like towing massive loads. I would change it at a shorter interval than usual, like 3000 miles instead of 5000 miles.

I took it to a different place than usual because the last two times I got it changed they didn't put the oil filter on tight enough and I lost about a quart in my driveway. They filled it back up and payed to have my driveway pressure washed. I own a pressure washing company.:lmao so I got the best of that deal. I am going to start doing it myself, too.

I presume you mean that they didn't give you the diesel rated oil? My understanding is that the difference is in the additives, mostly for soot suspension and control and to mitigate the fuel dilution inherent in most diesel engines as opposed to gas. I agree with the above post in that you should do the next change earlier, and maybe the one after that as well to flush the accumulated contaminants. Other than that, I don't see where there would be other issues (JMHO)...

..even though I'm not a Pennswax fan... I don't believe that Pennsoil or any one else makes a 15/40 oil that is not for Diesel. That being said I don't believe you have any thing to worry about.

My quick look at the Pennzoil site showed only one 15w40 and it is API CI-4 rated for diesel use.
