Patrick-- I want to add that you should copy the fuel filter change instructions and post on the DIY section. I looked there earlier and didn't see anything.

Very nice write-up on changing the filters! I can't wait to get started. I'm so glad I won't have to remove the fuel lines. When I saw the plastic connectors attached to the end of the fuel lines, I thought, Oh geez, something I'll break in the name of routine maintenance. :)

Patrick-- on a side note, every couple of weeks I drain some of the fuel from the HFCM. Should I drain all of it, or just about 30 seconds worth like the manual suggests.

David

David,
30 seconds to a minute is sufficient in most cases and that is what I usually do too. You can go longer but after a point you are just pouring out good fuel, because a truck that fills up with good fuel regularly and is driven often won't collect a lot of water. I've never had a bad batch of fuel to actually see an obvious change in the diesel being drained to know how much water there was and when you have drained it all. I don't think you can completely drain the filter housing when the system is closed because I think you would be siphoning fuel out of the tank through the fuel lines. Nice truck by the way, I really like flat beds because I love hauling stuff!!!

I'll see what I can do about getting the write up posted for others to use, thanks for the compliment and suggestion.

Keep on truckin' :sweet

Seeing the HFCM filters are the same, are the housings the same. I would like to replace the drain plug my 6.0 HFCM with the fitting it sounds like are on the newer ones. Is this possible?

FD 4609 is the Motorcraft part number for both the fuel filters for the '08 6.4 liter diesel.
