I'm starting to use the newer Cetane/Fuel conditioner from Ford for my 6.4 liter. (PM22A)

Anyone use this? I'm adding 6.1 oz per 38 gallons (derived from the 4oz to 25 gallon ratio).

Is anyone using this additive? Do you like it? Anyone use a higher ratio?

I'm thinking it won't hurt and might help my engine burn more efficiently. I'm hoping to see a tad better mileage too.

I've considered trying it several times, but just never took the time to grab any. I'm very interested to see what your results are and if anyone else has had any luck with it. My fuel mileage has improved *some* since it was new, but it could definitely stand to get better! I've got about 12K miles on it now, and usually average about 15-16 mpg (half in-town/half interstate and driving conservatively :fogey) Hope it works out for ya!

I use it consistently. The engine runs great! I seemed to pick up .5 to 1 mpg using the Cetane booster.

David,

I am using the Ford Cetane Additive mostly as extra protection from the Ultra Low Sulphur Diesel. My dad has been using it in his Job 1 (built April 07) F-250 since the moment it left the dealership (literally). I usually use the recommended dosing suggestions when I fill the tank from 1/2 full to full. When the tank is below 1/2 full and depending on how low it actually is I may double the dosing just to be sure I don't dilute the Cetane booster mixture of the fuel that was still in the tank before the fillup. I've been using it for the last year at every fill up since I lost three injectors and an EGR valve, with no problems (knock on wood) since.

I'm pretty sure I gained roughly 1 MPG with the additive and the truck does feel a little smoother. Quieter engine, and more power, yeah maybe it's hard to tell.

My main reason for using it is because I have read numerous times that the cetane rating of diesel fuel straight from the station pump isn't really high enough for everyday diesels let alone high performance diesels. My understanding is that the ideal cetane rating for diesel fuel should be between 50 and 54 points. Most fuel station pumps that list the cetane rating have a rating 43 to 45. One piece of info I have yet to find is the number of "points" the Ford Cetane Booster Additive is supposed to add to the fuel's cetane rating. Another reason is that I figure a better performing fuel will have less particulate matter which in turn will prevent build up of soot in all the places that an EGR equipped diesel like my 6.0 Liter or your 6.4 Liter Powerstroke may have problems due to soot buildup and internal corrosion. Take this part with a grain of salt-I have been told by people at the local Ford dealership that International actually recommends an additive because they like to see the engines running with a cetane number between 50 and 54-but this certainly could be perceived as a sales pitch for a Ford labeled product.

Just my two cents with some extra theory and logic thrown in for good measure.

I have also used the Ford additive in my 7.3. I use it mostly as a cetane booster. Most engines do have a minimum cetane requirement of 40, with 50 being prefered. And that covers almost any diesel engine I have ever worked on. I'd say almost any fuel out of the pump should have a cetane booster added to it. I work on agricultural equipment and have seen many power and, or smoking complaints that were fixed just by adding cetane improver.

I added the ford Cetane additive Tuesday evening to an empty tank. My tank holds 38 gallons so a added the proper amount of additive and filled up.

I made a 400 mile trip and it does appear that this stuff helps. My mileage looks to be up.

Only problem I see is the pain of adding the proper ratio when I need to top off the tank when it's not completely empty or even when it nearly full. The truck is used to haul stuff, so I try to fill it after every run. So sometimes the tank is half, 3/4, or sometimes nearly empty. Adding the right ratio is not easy.

I think it may be easier to simply fill up first, then add the cetane additive. It would be much easier to calculate how how much to add using the proper ratio (2oz/25gal)

I'm not using any additives on my 6.4 PSD, BUT on my 7.3 PSD I was adding 2 OZ of ACETONE per 10 gallons of diesel, I was getting alot better MPG, go ahead and GOOGLE it. I will not add the ACETONE on a 6.4 PSD, cause the FORD manuel doesn't want you to add additives to diesel (except for FORD products)

a bit of an update,
I've run through about 3 fill ups using the Ford additive and my mpg has gone up about 10%.
The engine seems to be much more responsive when I put the hammer down on the hiway.

An immediate thing I noticed was the mpg indicator shot up quite a bit while running the same stretch of interstate on cruise control at 65 mph. Did some hand calculation to confirm this and seems to be a consistent gain in mpg. Not sure about HP, but that's not important enough for me to worry about.

I,m going to start buying this in bulk. I think it's worth the price. I think I'm paying about 5 bucks a bottle and I can go about three or 4 tanks per bottle.
