check engine light?

Hey guys,

Today it was minus -33C outside and after starting my check engine light must have come on in the ten fifteen minutes while it was warming up. It sounds fine, revs fine, and drives fine... sorta. It lacks power. when I push the petal it revs up on the down shift but takes forever to go from 40kmph to 60kmph. It almost seems like it is having trouble getting exaust out. My truck is a 2008 F-450 6.4L. Anyone any suggestions?

-33C is colder'nasumbich...
my guess is its's a sustained low engine temp code..

Did you warm the engine up driving or idling? Please don't answer idling!

well unfortunatly im gunna have to go with the answer you told me not to go with haha... what problem does this cause? I took it in for survice today, and im told it shouldn't be anything serious. Also there is a recall on all 08's . Nothing bad. They are reprograming computer so that when truck goes through its Regen cycle it lets people know what its doing and also what to do while its doing it... Im thinking everyone knows this buy now and am probably days behind you guys lol... everyone here seems to know what the hell is going on. thanks for the replys guys!

Ford is adamant about not letting these engines idle. Number one diesels don't warm much when idling anyway. Very little fuel is burned and what does tends to put a oily mess on the valves and the EGR coolers and EGR valve. They call this wet stacking, Google it. NOT what you want. Fire the truck up count to fifteen and take off!

I actually was reading about the wet stacking yesterday and am now aware of what it is. I was reading manual and it says do NOT let engine idle for more than ten minutes and then if you do drive it for several miles before shutting off. Good to know though. Thanks boys for comments, will let you know whats up

Well the truck is running fine. They said because of the cold weather and the cold weather start a sensor on the exhaust (can't remember for the life of me which one). So now the truck runs fine and also it is kinda nice now that the truck lets you know when it hits its Regen cycle

as for idling, ive never had any problems with the 6.4 wetstacking. ive idled for hours when out plowing and when outside of my truck. yeah you lose heat and you can watch the temp gauge go down, but i wouldnt really worry about it. although its much colder where you are than where im at.

I could be wrong, but the acronym you might be looking for is "KPH"
