Can anyone point me where to get a diagram for 1989 ford 7.3 diesel engine. It is a pretty simple looking setup, but the old hoses are completely rotted away and I have no idea where to start.

Thanks, Dan.

vacum lines

It's pretty fool proof vacum pump to distrubution tee one line to brake booster, one to heater, one to vacum tank if you have one, one line to low vac sensor. I think thats it

Components

It seems to have

1. one line that runs inside the truck, within a wiring harness loom.
2. one nipple on what I think is a diaphram valve to switch from inside to outside air(maybe).
3. one nipple on what I think is the air conditioner evaporator box.
4. A tee with a diaphram in the center of it. This is just laying loose, not connected to anything any longer. Cannot see any thing that it has inside of it, can see straight through it. But it could have rotted out. Not sure what this does either.
5. Two open ports (nipples) on the supply branch tree, mounted on the firewall.

This is all under the hood. The pieces were laying under the hood, but all were disconnected. I found this when replacing the vacuum pump on my dads old truck. He told me he could not remember when the Heater and AC quit working, but it had been a long time.

Do you know the function of the tee with the diaphram in it. Dad wanted to hook everything to the main tee, but that is obviously not how it was originally, since only two ports were hooked up, and I am sure that the little valve for switching the air flow would not work that way.

The main thing that I do not know is whether the valve hooks to the line going into the wireloom, and into the truck, or to the air conditioning evaportator looking black box. One of these must control the valve and the other must send vacuum inside to the HVAC control panel.

Neither does the truck have a vacuum ball, nor does it have vacuum boosted brakes. The brakes are hydraulic, off of the power steering pump.

Sorry for not including more info in my first posting, now it does seem appropriate.

Thanks, Dan.

dan-
the hose in the loom with wires....how big is the diameter?
I'll try to post some pics in the morning.
in the meantime, stop by oilburners.net . it's the sister site to this place and where most of the IDI knowledge has chosen to stay after the exodus from std(tds).

Thanks for the sister site, I will check it out now.

The vacuum hose going inside is very small. In fact it is the first time I have seen such a small hose. It is very stiff and about 1/8" OD. Not the usual 1/8" ID that I am used to seeing. It may be a smidge smalller, but it is hard and has larger slip on boots to go onto the ports.

I apreciatte you getting a picture, this is completely new stuff. I never realized how vacuum independent diesels were. It is quite suprising.
Thanks, Dan.

Vacum hoses

I have the ford service book for that year It dosn't show much other than the heater lines. I don't have a scanner but I can tell you black is the vacum supply to the heater control. all the other lines involved with the heater come from the heater control.
Just hook up the black line and listen for leaks I can give you the other color codes

Vacuum diagram, job done.

I found this off of Alldata that was available in the local library. They have a subscription.

I had to open the bundle coming out of the firewall to find the second vacuum hose coming out, but it was in great condition.

Thanks for all the help. With your description and the diagram, I was able to get everything lined up. Hopefully tomorrow we will crank his truck and he will have a heater.

He rode his motocycle so long that he didn't really care whether the heater worked or not, until he broke his knee and leg. Now they ache when to cold, so we are trying to get everything going.

Thanks again, Dan.
