Who else would do a good job changing my ATF?

I have the 6.4 with auto tranny. The dealership wants a little over 200 dollars to do a tranny flush. Would an independent shop or tranny shop do just as good a job for less? Is there anything special about the tranny that makes it important to only have done at Ford?

An independent shop can do this. Make sure they put in Mercon SP and NO OTHER ATF.

My dealer quoted me about 175 for a fluid replacement and 25.00 more to do a "flush"

How many miles are on your truck? Do you really need a trans fluid change already?

The local shops I've looked into don't have the Mercon SP. Atlanta area.

You can change it yourself or have your favorite mechanic do it. You will have to supply the oil and filters. Last year we changed the atf in the excursion. Just gave the mech a case of sp and the two filters (Only used 8qts). If you have a 4x4 you should also change the atf in the transfer case (2.5qts) at the same time. Change both every 30k with out fail... You can use anything from SP to mobil 1 in the transfer case but only SP in the trans.
