I need to regear my truck

The 3.73's are not cutting it with the 5ther and 35" tires. The truck shifts into 5th gear or the TC is locking up and the egt go shooting up. I know the 35" tires have something to do with it but my egt run at 1150 to 1195 deg. and if I run slow around 55 mph. it will sit there. I need a set of 3.90 gears..... :rant

I had the same problem with my 2002 even running empty. It was a completely different truck after I installed the 4:56's. I would go with a set of 4:10's in your truck. They are probably cheaper too!

Before you go after different Dif gears, money wize.. you might compare it with an.. under/overdrive unit :dunno

A friend of mine did the under/over drive route.. within a few 50s.. he now has the Best of Both: Economy & Power.

With a 4X4, you have to change both gears. Front and back. Is it worth that much money?

Well $1200 in tires or $500 for both sets of gears and I know how to do it.....

4.10s will set you back to stock, 4.30s might hurt you on the highway but can allow for larger tires in the future. I'm adding +1 vote for the 4.10s. Since you got the skills it's just time and effort to do the deed.

Do the 4:10s. Thats what you should have with stock tire and 5er. With 35's its mandatory. Also it will make your automatic transmission run cooler and last longer too.

I just pre-purchased a 2010 f350 and want to lift it 8" and put 38's on it. I need advise on what gears to have factory installed. I still have the opportunity to modify my order, right now I have it coming with the 3.73 gears. What's the best fit for 38's?

(I will do highway driving, some off-road, and minimal towing.)

4.30s at least with 38s. 3.73 is way too high for that tall tire unless you don't mind no power. I'm not sure what the factory options are for gears but go with whatever is offered in the 4.?? range. Lower gears will get worse fuel mileage but put more power to the ground. If your options are 4.10 or 4.56, go 4.56. Just my opinion.

Where can you find two sets of gears so cheap? The cost of re-gearing is stopping me from doing it.
