Just bought a '09, 6.4l, F250 SD, about a week (or so) ago. I've been lurking and notice that a good portion of the threads relate to mileage on these beasts. So...here's my story in that regard.
I just got back from a 1350 mile trip from the Santa Fe area to Salt Lake City. My truck had 200+ miles prior to the trip, so it's essentially new. I have 3.73 rear end and stayed close to the posted speeds. No running of the air conditioner due to cold front pushing through. For the 600 mile ride up to SLC I averaged 17.3 mpg hand calculated; flow reading was very, very close to calculations. Again, this was fighting a head wind for a couple of hundred miles. On the return trip I averaged 17.8 mpg with light breezes throughout the trip. No fuel additives whatsoever.
The data are consistent with others listed on the forums and I guess my mileage is about what I expected it would be. My "DPF Washer" came on in cycles of about 350-400 miles for about 25-35 minutes. No smoke of any type during that process.
I love the truck and it doesn't look like I'll be spending a bunch of time or money on chip technology at this point. However, I'm buying my 5th wheel next spring and I reserve the right to weasel out of my last sentence.
