OK, just wondering if this is normal or not. I have not been in another 6.4 in a while. I can hear a noise when the turbo looses pressure (as long as i'm off th go pedal). It is loud and it sounds exacly like a bad bearing in one of the turbos. It is so bad that sometimes I think the impeller or the compressor is rubbing against its housing. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

I have the same 6.4L PSD with only 9,000 miles on my F450 and i have never heard that kind of noise before, if you really think the impeller or the compressor is rubbing against its housing I would take the truck back to the dealer and let them check it out. That way at least you have it on record.

I have noticed something comparable in my 08 6.4, although not as bad as to indicate housing contact. I took it to the dealer and they could find nothing wrong, but hey, it is on record with them now. It sort of sounds like the beginning of a bad bearing but only happens when I cut off the ignition. (I always give it a cool down period)

I brought it to the dealer and same thing - no conclusion. The sound is not all the time, it likes to come and go. I also hear it when I cut the ignition. Like you said, good thing it's on their records.

I have heard this noise on several occasions. As you stated it is usually very noticable when you shut the engine off. I think I will tell the Dealer about it in case it turns out to be something failing.

I have the same noise on my 08 6.4 but it doesn't happen on every shutdown. I usually hear it when I come home which is all uphill. I can also detect it when letting off the throttle after climbing a long grade. I had my son turn off the ignition while I had my head under the hood. Noise is from the air intake along the fender and continues until some rods that are attached to the turbo finishes moving. I'll be interested to see what causes this and if it normal behavior. It seems a bit loud to be normal.

I recently had the CEL come on so I took mine to the dealer with an explananation of my issues, including the the noise. The tech found a TSB that said to replace a heater hose of all things. I still don't understand the realationship but it did seem to help. It still makes a noise when shutting down but the service manager tells me this is normal.

That is normal. It takes a few seconds for the turbo to unspool, or wind down, when the engine is shut off.
