Popping in front end??

Had my truck aligned at the dealership. The rack at my shop is too small :rant

Ever since there has been a popping noise under my feet in the left front.(mainly when turning and hitting a bump, like entering the driveway) Carried the truck back and Ford said this was "normal rotation of the tie rod end" and that this was common to my truck. Im no expert, but I am a tech by trade and this sounds like bull@#%! I just replaced the ball joints, bearings, brakes, even switched to warn lock out hubs. Anyone else with an OBS heard of this. :dunno

to what degree your popping noise is, i do not know and cannot tell via internet forum. with that being said, yes the tie-rods on our trucks have an engineered "rotation" in them, it can be seen if you have someone shake the wheel with the truck parked. it does not make a SIGNIFICANT noise however. like dave said, it will make a little noise, enough so if you were listening for it you could hear it.

put the truck in the air, and have someone turn the wheel lock to lock while you watch ALL of the joints in the front end, including spring eyes.

check everything again with the wheels on the ground.

check the steering shaft for play.

does it only make a noise while you are rolling?

the body mounts make noise. Nobody ever seems to think it can be them. Right under your feet. Sometimes just a tightening is all that is needed.

check your swaybar bushings, my 03 makes a popping noise, and my bushings are shot. Give it a look it is atleast a somewhat cheap fix

if the tie rod ends are tightened so the tie rod is stressed or at the wrong angle they will pop and bang every time you turn. loosen them up and turn tie rod bar 1/4 of a rotation and tighten back up it will change the dramatics of the pop. then adjust accordingly depending if it gets louder or quieter.

have someone turn the wheel and watch the linkage and you will see how it binds and pops from the contour of the bar.
