Hi all.
I have a 2000 Superduty with less than 43k original miles.
I just had a check engine light go on.
The code reader claimed number 5 cyl glow plug. I was told it could be the wire or the plug. I looked up replacements and there seems to be several GP's available, even some goochie ones from Bosch that claimed to be made of inconel.
1) do folks have any recomendations

2) which bank of cyl is number 5 drivers or pass

3) Is this too early for plugs to fail?

First of all, use ONLY BERU/Motorcraft glow plugs. All of the other glow plugs won't last and can swell up on the tips, making them very hard to remove. Secondly, fill out your signature by going to the USER CP in the TOP BLUE LINE and clicking Edit Signature. Let us know what you drive and what mods, if any, you have. This will help us help you. #5 is on the drivers side, first plug from the front.

Sorry, I did not address your final question. It is too early for the plug to fail, but your truck does not get driven much and that does not help in the life department. Drive your truck more ofter and get on it! Read your Owners Manual for more maintenance tips.

Thanks.
I do get on it. I unfortunalty I live very close to my jobs so I don't put much mileage on. It's cold here in the winter overnight lows 20 to -5 . I use synthetic and it starts right up. I have the mileage split between two trucks one for work and one for pleasure.

X2 on using ONLY Motorcraft zd-11's............You'll read that from ALOT of people. On these trucks? Glow plugs should ONLY be the OEM.

By the way the Numbering is even on the drivers side and Odd on the Passengers.

The easiest way to tell which side is #1 through #4 is to look at the block and see which side is further forward. That is #1. It is always been on the passenger's side, even on every gas motor that I have worked on.
