truck wont start while the shifter is in park sometimes, i have to shift it to neutral , im guessing it has to do with a linkage- shifter adjustment , anybody done this before.??

check the arm on the column where the cable connects.. some older trucks & vans the screws like to loosen up..

may have a range switch/park-neutral sensor/neutral safety switch starting to take a poopie...

Is the neutral safety switch the black thing on the drivers side of the tranny with a slider rod attached to a half rotating lever ? Who has these for a reasonable price, or is that an oxymoron when buying transmission parts ?

Another symptom I have is that the truck will not physically go into park no matter how much I wiggle the auto gear shift.

Replaced the shift tube and shaft along with new plastic bushings on top of the steering column which fixed everything.
