The heat control dial moves freely from the very cold to warm settings but if I try to turn the dial to the hottest setting I feel a restriction in the dial. I think a pen may have fallen through a long duct by the windshield above the glove box causing a cable restriction. I removed the glove box but can't see anything. How do I fix this dial restriction? :dunno

O' Ruler of the Soybean Oil,

I can't help you with that problem but I sure wish I was running bio in my rig. I was making bio when i had my 2001 beetle TDI but traded it for an 09 Jetta TDI. so Im scared to run bio in either of my rides.

Hope you get your problem fixed although its hard to think about needing a heater with it being 115 F yesterday on my truck.

I went thru the "Pen in the plenum" thing, on my 91. I decided that cuz I never use the Hottest setting... I just lived with it. Then.. the pen musta fell the rest of the way down... If Ol' Blue is still alive.. the pen is prolly.. still there.

Short of removing the Dash, or removing under the hood portion.. to get to the Box/ducting ? I know of no easy fixes. :dunno

Anyone Else ?????

Yes I know today is the hottest day of the year but I'm thinking forward to winter when having the hottest setting is needed for the windshield defroster and cab heat.

Gota think'n 'bout this.. Could ya see down the defrost vent.. thru the windshield.. and if you could see the Pen.. pick it outa there with some mechanical fingers ?

Maybe in the Dark.. with a good strong light ??

Or.. go thru the inlet, under the cowling ??

Just need to locate the temperature blend door cable. :dunno

according to your diagram, that's the only cable it's got.

Most likely, the door swings left to right, and the cable itself will be on the top of the heater box.

How much dash you get to pull/disassemble to access it? :dunno

Hopefully ZERO :innocent
I had a pen drop in there back in '03  and paid my mechanic to fish it out. He removed the glove box but not any of the dash. He went waaaaaaaay up from in there but I didn't watch what he did. This time I hope to figure it out but if not I'll just bring back to him. I distinctly remember he telling me that that was the most expensive Bic pen on Earth. Oh great :rant
