Question EGT probe and gauge

Hey guys, before i go install my MBRP turbo back this week i am trying to find a "cheap" but reliable EGT probe and gauge... any tips or suggestions? i don't run a tuner that has the built in monitoring feature so i'm going with a gauge pod on A pillar. Thanks for advice! also whats a good estimate on price a shop should charge to "tap" the probe for me?

I use Autometer gauges for my truck. Auto Meter. The choice of what gauge series is up to you. I drilled my drivers side exhaust manifold at the point where #2 and #3 join up in the manifold. The manifold drills very easily, just use some grease on the drill to capture the loose chips as you are drilling. Take your time and it will go smoothly. I blew out my manifold using shop air, but not high pressures like 100 psi. Go light on the air pressure. Isso Pro also makes great gauges.

I used glowshift gauges....they are a great price and they look good imo. You can see mine in my photbucket pics in my sig.

For installation, I tapped the driver-side manifold before it turns up...using a bullet bit. Some people stepped up in bit sizes 2-3 times. I also drilled it with the truck running....thats it.

Well everybodys setup is different but i have the Juice Platinum with Attitude tuner from Edge on my truck and the EGT probe was only $30 and was almost to easy to install, the hardest part is the drilling. I would attempt and do it yourself before taking it to a shop cause i would assume they would jew you a little.

Ah, to be honest i DONT have a drill, and don't know anything about tapping for a probe. The process is described and seems easy enough. I couldn't imagine it being more than 50 bucks to tap the manifold and insert the probe.. not hook it up, but just tap and probe!

Thanks for the info guys, i am probably going to go with a autometer guage.

Just to add mt 2 cents in here i think the best nontune set of gauges is the Edge Insight you can run 4 temps at a time, i am runnig EOT-ECT-EGT-Trans Temp and the AutoMeter fuel pressure gauge on the column :sweet fuel pressure is also a must anything under 45 lbs will KILL injectors.

I'm actually getting ready to drill into the manifold this weekend to hook up my Edge Insight. What size drill bit do you guys usually use to start? I believe the instructions say to use a 3/8" for the final hole (don't have them in front of me right now), but I'll probably drill with multiple bits and vacuum out after each one.

Any other tips/tricks?

Nope, I'd say your approach is correct. Also, make sure you let things cool off before you start drilling. It'll just lessen the risk of things cracking. Always a good idea to vaccum things out after each drill bit as well. The main thing is to just go slow. I also had a magnet on a stick type deal that i stuck in the hole after each drill bit as well so that it would pull out as much as possible.

Sweet. I'm really looking forward to getting the Insight mounted and running... especially the EGT readout. Hopefully the weather will clear out and let me tackle it this weekend.

One more question for you guys - Where do you run the probe wiring back through the firewall?
