Can a faulty CPS have any bearing on a #8 injector?
I broke down in Des Moines last week, had to limp into a dealer and was told I needed a #8 injestor, a CPS, and an injector harness to the tune of $1500.00 which I paid. Attempted FoMoCo assistance and of course was refused.

no.
the #8 is the LL injector, so it differs from the other 7,
the injector harness was probably your "breakdown" and is a common fault on the 7.3

long lead injector was an attempt to correct a condition called cackle. longer lead, gives a slightly longer delay on the injector firing.. yada yada yada...

but was ultimatly figured out by grass roots effort by a guy by the handle of TexasTownCar, may he rest in peace, and HutchinAugusta, as the condition of sucking air into the fuel system.
