Actually, you might want is a station that is not big on diesels. They go by a book and look for all of the items that are supposed there. If you are trying to BS your way through, they might be a little easier on you.

Can't help you in the Bay Area. The guy I went to owns a F-250 SD, He said that I may have to remove my pyrometer thermocouple because it is a modification to the exhaust system, but not this year. What they check is for computer codes , performance chips, if the snog equip. is in place , Air filter modifications, and for Excessive smoke. He stated that this year was a experiment and that most of the questionable items such as thermocouples, Air cleaners, would be addressed and answered. Hope this helps. Joe

I still think that smog testing is poor legislature. They want to test diesels because some "clean air" groups say its a good thing. Only thing is that most of the gross pollution vehicles are exempt from the test. Most our (at least mine) states the its a very low emission vehicle.

While the Smog testers gouge you by only providing a "visual" smog test and by jumpin on the fuel peddle and watching for heavy black smoke, while charging extra prices because the vehicle is a truck.

Most places I went to (in my area) refused to conduct the test because they really did not know what they were looking for in the first place.

They tried the same thing in Florida and repealed it. I (we) can only hope that our legislature figures it out and repeals it in California too.

I think that what they are mostly concerned about is modified vehicles.
I don't know of the statistics but I can bet you that a modified truck pollutes far more than a stock one.
I like more power but there is a price to pay isn't there.
