DRW to SRW conversion

I have a 2005 F350 dually. I am wondering what it would take to get it to SRW. Would I have to replace the rear axle with a different one, or is it simply a matter of wheels and tires. Anyone who's done the swap please shed some light before I get in over my head.

I don't know of anyone who has done this, I think Super Singles would be cool on a DRW, if they didn't cost so much. I bet someone on here knows if it can be done or not and what you would have to do.

I saw a dually that someome had put some wide( 18" ) Mickey Tompson street tires on the rear.
They fit in the wheel wells.

Are you wanting to make a permanent change to SRW? In order to do it right you'd have to change out the bed also to get rid of the dually fenders. Dually fenders without dual tires looks ridiculous, IMO. A lot of people up here like to remove the outer duals during the winter for better traction and it just doesn't look right. There is an adapter on the end of the axles that I'm pretty sure can be unbolted to allow the use of non-dually wheels.

I think super singles might be cool on a pickup but I'm not a fan of them on big rigs. If you lose a tire with duals at least you have a second tire to hold the weight until you can get to a safe stopping point. If a super single goes you're pretty much left stopping right where you are or you'll destroy the rim and possibly damage the axle. But super singles do save weight and get better fuel mileage.

Not certain but i believe the dually comes with shorter axle tubes.

Somebody did it here It's interesting, but not real practical, I think.
On the converting to singles... I converted the other way, as quite a few others have. I'd suggest finding one of us and trading trucks, it would be lots simpler and more cost effective.

swapping the DRW to SRW axle is pretty straightforward, but the front hub set-ups are different as well,
Plus you need to fix the holes in the side of the box from the hips...
and you'll need five new wheels...

like Roy said.. if you want a single, just find one and try and trade the guy..

The front axle is the same for both SRW and DRW right?

From what I understand, there is some sort of adapter on the front to use the dually rims on? (may be completely wrong here)
