New owner of 05 SD SC 8ft 6.0L 6 sp and new to board.

Am interested in a tonneau cover mostly for security but also for streamlining. A soft cover wouldn't give me the security but I don't think I could live with a full hard cover.

I have looked at rollup hard covers from Pace Edwards (Full Metal JackRabbit) and from Truck Covers USA (American Roll Cover) and they would seem to fit the bill but I would like to know if one is better than the other as well as anyone's real life experience with either including long term reliability.

Would appreciate any info on this before I drop the dime. Thnx.

Does your tailgate lock?? If not and hard cover wont do any good. They will still get it. I had a soft cover and never had any problems.

The tradiitional hard cover looks like a PITA to deal with. When you need it open for loading the big stuff it will require removal. The rollup looks like a good compromise but it would help to find out if anyone has had good experience with one over an extended period.

Loving my cover

I have a Pace rollup cover on my truck and I love it. The only downside is the front 18" is used to keep the roller and almost goes to the floor of the bed, so it shortens the short bed a little. But I don’t haul too much stuff that is that long so I don’t mind. The other thing is the cover does leak around the edges in a hard rain or when you are washing the truck, not a lot but you will want to keep that in mind when you keep stuff back there. All and all it is a great compromise

sss,
Thanks. I have the 8 ft bed so its long enough that 18" won't be missed.

How long have you had it and has there ever been any trouble with the rollup function? Also, is there any maintenance involved?

I have the Roll-N-Lock cover. The cover locks as wells as my tailgate. When locking both, it provides a bit of security. If anyone wants to get in they will.

I have to hit the tracks and the lock mechanism with some tri flow or wd-40 every once in a while but nothing to bad as far as maintenance. If i dont lube the tracks once a month, or after I haul bark dust or something else that can get into the tracks or it gets a little sticky and I have to push it open a little but that is it. I have never had a problem with it rolling up and I use the hell out of it.

Pace Edwards

I had the Pace Edwards on one of my trucks and really enjoyed it. I gave up the roll top covers for my toolbox when I realized that I needed the tool access more than the covered bed.

If you are looking for security and coverage the roll top will be right up your alley. Go get one!
