A non-PCM controlled High Idle shouldn't be used for a Warm Up.

Reasons being: the PCM, Cold Start functions work together. When we Force (so to speak) a High Idle.. against what the PCM is attempting to do.. in sequence... All kinds of things can be negatively affected.

I post this because.. In my recent search for the Perfect Chip, one of the Tunes I wanted was a 1100 rpm High Idle. In most all the conversations I had, with the Makers.. they recommended.. a Chip/Tuner controlled high idle NOT be used for warm ups.

Better A/C in traffic ? Jump Starts ? PTO ops.. Yes. Faster Warm Ups.. No.

One of the first things I noticed after getting the high idle mod done, was that occasionally the idle would slowly increase to nearly 1800 rpm.

I think I'll change my "routine" a little, and only use the high idle mod the way it was apparently intended to be used.

Big Joe makes a good point as well! Some times those cool to have mods aren't all that.

It was recommended to me by a Deisel Master Mechanic to not let the truck idle for more than 5 miuntes. I did not bother to ask him why specifically. He said simply that it wasn't good for it.

Perhaps, your symptom is simply caused by the long idle time at an increased RPM.

I learned a LOOOOOOOONNNNNNG time ago that the way to keep MY wife happy is to NEVER buy her anything she can wear without her being present. Even THEN my job is to stay as far away from the transaction as possible.

Fine by me.

Seriously, the only thing I get my wife now after nearly 30 glorious years (is she looking over my shoulder?) of marriage falls into one category.... JEWELRY.

She's like a crow or raccoon... all that shiny stuff gets, and keeps, her attention.

She loves it, and I don't mind not hearing gripes like "It's the wrong color" or "It makes my ankles look fat" or some other BS.
