Hi, I own a 2005 F250 I bought it new, & now it only has 42,000 miles on it. Every year I change the oil & both fuel filters b/c I figure diesel breaking down & I'm averaging 6,000 miles/yr. (All highway miles.) Don't want any issues when I'm far from home...

My question is that since I'm not towing/hauling anything heavy, is there anything I should be doing to protect the engine/transmission etc. -
Lately I've heard a few guys talk about how the diesel needs to worked regularly -
It's always been just a toy hauler (heaviest load probably a 5,000 lbs ATV trailer.)
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks

Take it out every week for a drive on the highway. Get on it!! Exercise the variable vanes of the turbo or they will get stuck on you. That will co$t you some $$$. I would change the tranny fluid at 60,000 miles or less.

Thanks DaveBen, I wasn't sure if that would be enough. I was also going to bring it to the dealer for an Engine coolant flush - looked on line & seemed a lot more involved than just draining the radiator. Do you know anything about that?

Read your owners manual for maintenance schedules. I drained my coolant and used distilled water for a flush. Drain and refill with distilled water and coolant (Gold). Do not use tap water as it has minerals in it.
