Remote Starters?

Anyone here have an aftermarket remote starting system on their SD's? I've been thinking about getting one but don't know much about them.

I had a valet system on mine when I bought it worked well most of the time when it tried to keep the truck running after I turned it off I yanked it out, it the removal process i discovered that there was a problem with the installation.

I have had several and installed hundreds what do you want to know?

I just really wanna know if its worth it to get one. I was thinking the whole 'wait to start would be and issue for remote starters.

Yeah I was installing them about 6-8 years ago when they really started to get popular and almost all of those had a wait to start input and a tach input. I can tell you that it's best to have someone install it professionally. I would definitely say it's worth it I have one on my superduty and my wife's focus. It all comes down to the features you want the more expensive versions are going to have alarms as well but all of them will have extra outputs for accessories that aren't part of switched power on your vehicle. I don't really worry about those just turn the heater on when we park it at night. On my brother's first dodge that had heated seats I wired a relay to one of the outputs so he could start the truck and turn on the driver seat heater in the morning with his remote. If you're thinking about it for your '02 I've done a few on that truck as well as several alarms so I wouldn't hesitate buying one for it. Like what has been said before the DEI brands are all pretty nice I would look for a viper,clifford, or python.

I actually had mine installed at Best Buy 4 or 5 years ago and it has been great. They were able to set the delay to 30 seconds, which is plenty of time even on the coldest New England mornings. I believe it was under $300.00 as well.

That's using a time delay relay which is what it sounds like. The wait to start on most of them waits for an input from the wait to start light on the dash usually, either - or + 12v. Pretty simple really when the light goes out the relays from the unit activate the starter and ignition.
