Does anyone know how to set up a high idle on a toggle switch? I read about some people doing it with their up fitter switches on newer trucks. I have a 7.3 in a 2001 f 350. Any help would be great. Thank you.

Looks like you will have to rely in a tuner to get the High Idle. Your PCM has the programming in it, but no one sells a kit to add a high idle switch.

What Dave said.

My DP Tuner has a 1200rpm high idle option. It's been Very handy at times.

BUT..... If you do a little searching here on SDD.. Seems some of the members have figured out a way of doing it, on our 7.3's, fer cheap.

I know my 99 has one built into the wastegate system. Only on a cold start up. It will idle a lil faster till it warms up. If you want it to high idle for aloooong time you will need to get a chip or programmer that has it. My PHP chip has a few diff high idle tunes depending on how high you want it to idle for using a pto winch or somethin. I like my PHP chip because It came with a chip burner and I can go onto their database anytime and custom burn my chip as many times as I want. 6 positions on the chip.

I bought a used Auxiliary Idle Unit (used in ambulances so they say) off e-bay for $150 iirc...I use it all the time. It sets down near the floor below the center part of the dash. It has adjustments for idle and can run in a battery protect mode (which I use). Plug and play on my '02 model...I ripped out the wastegate controller on a turbo rebuild so this was my solution for some cold (and frankly, also, hot) weather situations.

FWIW ?

I have a complete AIC module (pn# X3CF-12B639-CA) for a 7.3, just like RSG talks about. It's For Sale ? PM me if interested ?

Just to somewhat clarify the stock OEM "High Idle" ?

As DaveBen eluded to.. It's in the PCM programming: When the EOT, ECT and Ambient air Temp sensors sense Coold temps.. they cause the PCM to trigger a "High Idle" rpm, the EBPV closes to somewhat "load" the engine..to retain heat. Other Whizo things like.. Glow Plugs continueing to cycle, fuel mapping.. comes into play too ?

When one or more of the temps reaches a PCM design temp parameter... the High Idle goes back to normal RPM's.

It's All About a FASTER (EPA driven) warm-up .. so we don't pollute.

Joe

(It's also been my understanding.. It's Not a good idea to use a maually operated High Idle.. during a PCM controlled Cold Start cycle. Yer call ?)
