Hello,

I am a perspective Super Duty owner, and I thought this would be a good place to obtain information.

Thanks guys.

Ideally, I am looking for an F-250 Crew diesel. (Although I'd take a 1-ton if the deal is right.)

A 6.7L isn't going to happen due to cost. And I don't have anything against the 6.4L, but the 08-10 front end isn't really my favorite.

So basically an 07 or older crew diesel in decent enough shape and with okay mileage. I wouldn't rule out a 7.3L, but most of the trucks I have been looking at are 6.0L's. Good thing my BIL is a Ford mechanic. ;) Actually, it seems like if they haven't had issues by now, they should be "okay." I don't know, what are your thoughts? I know if you kick up the power the ARP studs are a good idea, but for right now, stock level power is fine for me.

The market is pretty tight now, and I might just wait a little bit too, as I don't "need" the truck right away.

I have a 2004 F-350 4 X 4 with the dreaded 6.0 engine. It has not given me any, problems other than regular maintenance, and I like mine. I have NOT modded this engine and I find it to be as reliable as my old 7.3. Check the Oasis report on any Ford you are considering to get the service reports on that truck. Just take the VIN to a dealer and they should give you a report for free. I can't comment on the other engines as I have not even driven any of them.

I have a 06 with 85,000 on it, it works hard pulling my Fifth-Wheel, it's all stock other than it has a 4 in exhaust
and no kitty. I tell everyone buying a used 6.0 if you can get a Warranty, by all means do it. Lots of good clean
trucks in AR, TX and North LA.

On the extreme low price side, there is a 2004 crew cab with the 6.0L on my way home from work for $4800. The kicker, it has 271,000 miles, and some rust. The bed has been used pretty hard, tailgate is rusted through, dent in the hood, etc.

I just looked at it quick the other day, and haven't talk to the guy, but if I could get it for under $4k, that might be worth it. It would be nice not to have a loan. And from 50 feet, it doesn't look bad. :sly

Yer call guy.. But.. You git what you pay for.

$4000.00 is To Much for a 04 CC.. [as you describe it], with 271K on the clock.

The rust, dents and use you saw, is only what you could see of the body surface ????? What are the engine/trans internals like ?????

Yeah, I am more interested in the mechanical aspects. I am suspecting some issues unless he has detailed maintenance logs. I'll at least talk to the guy and try to get a feel for if it's even worth taking for a test drive.
