My 2002 diesel has been sitting for a long, long time with dead batteries. I just have been able to put the $ together to buy new ones. The fuel has been sitting in the tank for long, long time. I know not to use starter fluid. What are some helpful hints on helping my truck to start. Thanks!

7.3 are much more resilient to bad fuel than the newer trucks. How long is a long time? If you are worried about the fuel, drain the tank and change the filter. The new batteries should turn the engine just fine.

How much fuel is the tank? If you’re less then haft, top it off and drive the hell out of it. It will most likely smoke a bit but should clear in time.

.... and a 16 ounce shot of Power Service (Wal-Mart) wouldn't hurt either.

Thanks guys for all of your helpful advice that got my truck started on the 2nd crank. It sat for over a little over 2 and half years. Please don't ask why. I am going to now bring the air in my tires up to spec, get insurance coverage and blow the crap out of the engine. Ric the CICGUY
