Ok, people, I installed an Edge Insight CS. Does lots of stuff but I was primarily interested in exhaust gas temp. So, now what do I do with it? The insight gives 4 EGT readings: 1 = pre DOC (diesel oxidation catalyst?), 2 = Post DOC, 3 = Pre DPF (diesel particulate filter) and 4 is Post DPF.
Is one of these more important that the others and what is it's max temp towing and how low should it be before shutting down? Obviously have a piece of equip that is smarter than me!

No operation Manual with that Edge CS ????

Being new to my 6.7 too, and not having a way to monitor EGT's yet .. I'd throw this at'cha... I'd be watching the Hottest temp reading shown/available to me.. which would be pre-DOC (?). Seems reading #1, going to #4.. is following the exhaust stream, from the manifolds, to the tail pipe: Post DPF.

8-900* is where I would start paying attention.. to either down shift, get off the throttle, or Both... Depending on where the end of the pull is. Your Call.

11-1200* is MAX, and.... you don't really wana go there. Metals [can] start doing Molecular stuff at, or above those temps.

Just an .03 ??

Thanks, Joe.

Manual? Yep, I have one but not very helpful or comforting. Without referring to a specific vehicle or engine the manual recommends 1350 as a max temp. Seem high (you know, molecular stuff!). Manual has diagram of the sensor placement in a ford with 6.4 power stroke.

I haven't towed since getting the insight but have noticed that the #1 sensor gets hottest fastest so I agree with you that it is the one to watch..

I had gauges installed in an '01 7.3 at a local turbo shop. The installer recommended 1000 as the max in that truck. Look forward to hooking the trailer up (maybe two months before I do) and seeing what the temp does with a load.

Thanks again,
Jerry

I think # 4 is the one up top. you can witch all 4 at the same time to be sure witch one gets the hottest when you push it. I deleted so I have mine up top in the delete plate.

I have all 4 displayed on the insight. That's all I have displayed. Have not towed, barely been on the highway since I installed the insight. I'll be watch'n. I gave the description of each probe that I saw as I selected them to be displayed in my first post above. Went back to the diagram in the manual and 2, 3 and 4 are below the truck and labeled as above. The probe left to be #1 is up under the hood and labeled 'Pre-Turbo EGT'.

I saw that someone posted to the 'Regen's' thread today. I'm going over there to ask a question about regins.
